There is a geography of miracles. Jonasz studies insects and fish, while Signe studies vegetation. After a day spent in gardens and libraries, they take a train and leave the city, pitching their tent on the shore of a lake. While reading, eating fruit, tracking in the forest and swimming in the cold lake water, the outside world feels more distant. When another person joins them, they become a group of three. However, the three different people are at different lakes at different locations in different times. Dane KOMLJEN was born in Yugoslavia and majored in directing and contemporary art in France. AFTERWATER is his second film which is an interesting combination of fictional, documentary, and experimental film. KOMLJEN who felt the strange charm of lakes while reading ecologist Evelyn HUTCHINSON´s “A Treatise on Limnology” decided to use the format of a film to attempt and write his own “A Treatise on Limnology.” The lake flows through many historical periods and their various agendas. How will lakes function as a treasure chest of memories and ideas? [CHUN Jinsu]
* AFTERWATER will be screened at JEONJU IFF after having its world premiere at an overseas film festival.
