100 Years of Korean Cinema: Wild at Heart

Beastie Boys

Director_ YOON Jongbin

Korea 2008 126min 35mm color feature Fiction
Review

When the film starts, the camera explores a host bar from the outside to the inside in a long take, which reminds us of Goodfellas (1991) or Boogie Nights (1999). It shows the director’s ambition to reveal the naked truth of Korean capitalism. Jae-hyun is the leader of the group who is full of bluff and tall tales even in debt. Seung-woo derives benefits from enticing rich women to climb the ladder of success. The film depicts the desire and frustration of two men living like walking on the edge of a knife. It also criticizes the vain endeavor of show-off life. [KIM Youngjin]
