The Foul King

Review

A brilliant comedy that contrasts a boring life and the pleasure of adrenaline-charged wrestling. Im Dae-ho is an incompetent man but is thrilled when he performs a cruel, masked pro wrestler. The power of satire comes when we realize that we live under the law of the jungle, corruption and helplessness and that is much surreal and total nonsense. The wrestler makes us laugh through various happenings on the stage but can never escape from his reality. Director Kim shows his wits by leaving the plaintive pathos at the end of laughs.
