100 Years of Korean Cinema: Another Upspring of Korean Cinema

Review

The director looks at the history through an individual’s psychology. A laborer Jang meets a crazy girl. She went insane due to the traumatic massacre in Geumnam-ro. Viewpoints are divided into Jang, her brother’s friends who search for her, and the people who saw her. This multi-view structure creates a certain, critical distance from the audience and extends her subjective memory to the historical context of the 1980s. After the realistic representation of the massacre, the film asks our position on the Gwangju Uprising. [KIM Youngjin]
