3am, Zhongzheng Road, Taipei. Beneath a big freeway towering above it, lies the night eatery “Little Plates with Rice.” Here Mr. Kuo and his wife Mrs. Lin cook for the city’s sleepless. Their eatery is a pit stop, a place of refuge, a warm bowl of rice for the city people. One morning, riding back from the market, Mr. Kuo takes a different exit on the highway and journeys to the sea.
