Ashore portrays the life of a singular fisherman in an ancient riverfront community near Lisbon. Divided between the quiet solitude of the river and the family ties that wash him ashore, the film follows Albertino Lobo, as nature renews itself with each season cycle.
Albertino, who looks like a 70s Hollywood star, eats his meal at a small restaurant where his wife Dalia works and rides a boat until sunset. As their daughter’s marriage approaches, the family is agitated over trivial matters. This documentary is the first feature of Teles who won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlinale 2016 for Batrachian’s Ballad. The film borrows music of Nat King Cole, Otis Redding and Leon Bridges to express the changes of season and emotion. Moreover, the images of loneliness bring the visual pleasure to the audience.
