Lisa Conroy is general manager at a highway-side “sports bar with curves,” Double Whammies. She nurtures and protects her employees fiercely ─ but over the course of one trying day, her optimism is battered from every direction... Double Whammies sells a big, weird American fantasy, but what happens when reality pokes a bunch of holes in it?
All day long, the waitresses at Double Whammies, wearing crop tops and hot pants, serve beer to the male clientele. But Lisa grumbles that "the tips are way better." Burdened with the responsibility of caring for her ex-husband and son, Lisa fights a battle every day. The vivid portrayal of Lisa’s sense of responsibility and vitality makes us feel as if we are watching a documentary. Andrew Bujalski delivers a careful observation of the experiences of women at work through realistic episodes and rich characterization. [JANG Byungwon]
