the Breathing of the Fire
the Breathing of the Fire is the second documentary by Ko Hee-young who won the Jeonju IFF award with her debut film Breathing Underwater (2016). Similar to her previous work which looked into the lives of the female divers holding their breath as much as they could deep inside water, this time she portrays the life of a potter who fights with fire all his life to complete a single bowl in his mind. In this film, there is a drama about a father who is not willing to hand over the fire to his daughter silently learning pottery instead of his dead son by an accident. On the other side, there is another story overlapped about the potter wanting to see the Joseon bowl, which became a Japanese national treasure now. The potter wants to complete his bowl, but it is hard to see the Joseon bowl again. [KIM Youngjin]
