ISADORA´S CHILDREN

Director_ Damien MANIVEL

France, Korea 2019 85min DCP color feature Fiction
Review

This story features a young dancer in Paris, a disabled girl and her dance teacher and an audience who comes to see a dance performance. They are all connected to Isadora Duncan’s solo Mother, which she created following the death of her two children. Their personal stories are not explicitly revealed, but all of them seek to reinterpret and reenact Mother. Not only are they Duncan’s new children, but they’re also her spiritual successors who sublimate their emotions into beautiful movements. Damien Manivel, who used to be a dancer himself, paints a calm yet moving portrait of movements that embrace emotions. [Sung MOON]
