Review

The protagonist of Goodbye Summer Hyunjae is a high school senior who is terminally ill. He has not informed his best friend Ji-hoon and his favorite girl Sumin of his illness. He does not think his illness is important to him. The keywords of puberty´s friendship, love, and life are cliches, but the story of Goodbye Summer heads toward a completely different direction around Hyunjae. The frames are languid and dreamy, and those who appear observe the present time given to themselves in an attitude like they will breathe freely in a sterile space, not hurt each other, and not mind what is invisible behind them. That does not give an impetus to the breath of the dynamic story, but their short life-time without hesitation ─ beyond the intensely desired gale of adolescence ? creates a subtle emotional whirlwind.
