Review

Junha is one of the most difficult children at the school. His autism causes him to attack his classmates and even teachers without warning. Each outburst further isolates Junha from his community as his teachers and peers struggle to find a way to live "with" Junha. The camera provides an intimate look into this society, leaving the question; what is human entity and how is it connected?

DIRECTOR
HONG Hyung-sook
Hong Hyung-sook took part in the independent film group “Seoul Visual Collective” in 1987 and worked as its representative until 2000. In her film Where We Live, Where We Struggle (1990), she deals with the housing policy and the tenants who suffered from the surge of rental price in 1990. In Doomealee: A New School is Opening (1995), she spread her purpose as she investigated the meaning of community though the struggles in Doomealee. Junha´s Planet reveals Hong’s constant interest in the fissures and problems of a small community. While she highlighted the site of strikes in the 1990s, she moved onto exploring the Korean society in a wider range since the mid-90s, probing into both large and small places. Her major works have been screened at the Jeonju IFF’s Documentary Special as Korea’s representative documentary director.
