The interpretation of the Alfred Hitchcock classic Vertigo, pieced together using footage from old films and television shows shot in and around the San Francisco area.
''The Green Fog'' is a creative adaptation of masterpiece. Guy Maddin with his partners created an imaginative parallel universe of Hitchcock´s ''Vertigo''(1958). The edited images from films and TV shows made in San Francisco, shooting location of ''Vertigo'', are combined with Kronos Quartet´s live score. The shots taken from about 200 reference footage are linked to ''Vertigo ''in ''The Green Fog: High Anxiety''(1977) by Mel Brooks which mimics ''Vertigo'', the footage of the Museum which indicate Madeleine´s conscience overlooking Madeleine. When Scottie looks at Madeleine´s necklace, his feelings are replaced by Donald Sutherland´s shriek in ''Invasion of the Body Snatchers''(1956) by Don Siegel. A film reminiscent of Dziga Vertov´s ''Man with a Movie Camera''(1929) and Walter Ruttmann´s'' Berlin: Symphony of a Great City''(1927). [JANG Byungwon]
