Yoon Sangsam, a journalist following the case, reports that the death was a result of asphyxiation during torture. The film is both a historical drama and a panorama of history. In the era filled with longing for change, what transform the Korean society are the flames of sacrifices. Director Jang Joon-hwan embraces various perspectives and thus addresses people’s longing for change in a more extensive and fundamental way. As a result, the film becomes a drama that empowers the present time rather than a mere reenaction of the past. [LEE Sang-yong]
