Review

A film on the meaning of freedom by photographer and director Raymond Depardon. Every year 92,000 people undergo psychiatric care without their consent in France. It takes ´12 days´ for the hospital to bring a patient through the trial. ''12 Days ''begins with a scene of trial that could make the patient´s fate change dramatically after 12 days. Three cameras are fixed on the patient, the judge and the court respectively. In the intersection of the images with questions, answers and arguments, it is internal pain that patients can prove up. Depardon is inspired by the new law passed in France in 2013, which revised the rule that patients not to attend psychiatric treatment should be before a judge within12 days and stipulated the patient could not be detained by the psychiatric record but by medical records and doctor´s recommendations.
