HERs takes us on a long journey through the lives of three women with the same name called Gina or the life of one woman filled with dreams and ideals, stretching over decades from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, and then to Alaska. The land of opportunity, be it America or anywhere else we choose it to be, is always strange. Ironically, we always remain outsiders as we are alienated by the social system and customs, and even our families. An outsider’s misconception that coconuts grow on the palm trees in the streets of Los Angeles only goes to prove that people are alienated according to the principles of reality and that opportunity picks people. Gina, the woman in this film, has her dreams crushed over and over again by such outside circumstances. Isolated from others and hence the world, the ideals that she continues to hold to can only be comforted by sweet ice-cream. The only dream she achieves is to see the aurora borealis, an illusion she cannot obtain.
