Jeonju International Film Festival has been a place where we can concern about the reality in Asia and its films by discussing Asian independent films, now having its 5th festival, we broaden our Competition Section up to independent films all over the world to find and evaluate the daring attempt of independent films with a small budget. Also, this section has its new name, Indie Vision, which is open to every independent film regardless of its genre, drama or documentary. Moreover, Documentary and Animation Biennale has been replaced by the section, Stranger than Cinema. The section, Stranger than Cinema will be a place to introduce films as a result of the experimental process to approach film itself and a place to share the experience of watching films of a new style. They may look unfamiliar at the first glance, but it is a methodology of problematic which has been continued in film and fine art works. The move of cinema leads us from a familiar dark cinema space into a new place. JeonjuInternational Film Festival will focus on the phenomenon in which the way of seeing is transformed in the unchangeable content of a story, and metamorphic story's structure with the section, Stranger than Cinema. Those two changes mentioned above, are not sudden or artificial ones, but just resonable ones coming from the basic concept of JIFF which began with the will to understand the change of film itself, producing methods and consumption process. Especially, this year, you will discover various films with the sections such as "Discovery, Cuban Cinema" and "Retrospective, ATG(Art Theater Guild in Japan)". The films in these sections are valuable above and beyond the difference of political system or ideology. The sections, Filmmakers Forum and Jeonju Sonimage are ready to meet audiences with more special programs. Filmmakers Forum plans to be with Cinematographer's Master Class followed by the last year's Director's Master Class. We can enjoy Jeonju Sonimage this year with two silent films in a free music concert. The films, newly interpreted with live concert will give us new experience. The programs in the 5th JIFF have been prepared with the expectation of its maturity and newness. While involving the most progressive aspects of film, the 5th JIFF will provide every pleasure that a film festival can provide.
