Middle Earth “Writing” Camp

This year’s “Jeonju Project Market” (JPM) launched a new program called “Middle Earth Camp” with Luz Y Sonidos, Inc. Middle Earth Camp is a continuation from Middle Earth Lab, which aimed to create a support hub for creators working in various fields of culture and art.

The first Middle Earth Camp will focus on writing. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jeonju IFF, 20 clan members, together with their chief, will depart for a new territory. Under the theme of “Present-20: Nowhere to Hide,” the camp will look over the trend in Korean movies from 20 years ago to the present. In-depth discussion will follow in order to elucidate novel insights, with a special focus on “circumstance of emotion” (injeong) and “circumstance of events” (sajeong), which constitute two major components for Korean society. They will host a master class focusing on Nowhere to Hide (1999) directed by Lee Myung-se. Director Shin Yeon-Sik will give a lecture about storytelling of circumstance of emotion and circumstance of events, music director Mowg will give a lecture about the emotion and events of film score.

Filmmakers preparing for a project of their own are invited to participate in the camp. Interested filmmakers are to submit the synopsis of their work in progress. The camp committee will review the synopses and select twenty participants. Selected participants will be provided with accommodation and meals from 3 days (from May 9th to May 11th). Admissions to the film festival and to the closing ceremony will also be provided.
