The 17th Jeonju International Film Festival introduces diverse Class programs

- Meet masters such as PARK Chanwook, Philippe GRANDRIEUX, Denis COTE

- Diverse programs will be held: from a lecture to a small talk

The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF) holds various lecture programs by international veteran directors, film critics and actors. ‘Master Class’, ‘Cinematology Class’, ‘Talk Class’, ‘Forums’ and ‘Talk in Spring’ are ready to provide vivid stories of prestigious cineastes.

‘Master Class’ features masters who have made outstanding cinematic achievements and developed their own areas. The audience can meet artists that have achieved outstanding accomplishments in each field and pioneered their own realm. The guests for this year’s ‘Master Class’ are Philippe GRANDRIEUX, Pablo TRAPERO and Denis COTE. First of all, director Pablo TRAPERO from Argentina who won the Silver Lion for The Clan at the 71st Venice International Film Festival talks about Argentinian cinema and his world of film. The ‘Master Class’ of Pablo TRAPERO will be held at 10:30 am, May 1. Philippe GRANDRIEUX being featured in The ‘Philippe GRANDRIEUX: The Rediscovery of Cinematic Language’ retrospective in ‘Special Focus’ talks about his films and his cinematic methodology after his film Despite the Night screened at 5pm, May 1. Denis COTE, a director who represents Canada’s Quebec cinema in, talks about his world of film and his cinema style with Boris without Beatrice as a main reference at 6pm, May 4.

‘Cinema Class’ is designed to provide the audience in-depth conversations on remarkable films from the current. At this year’s ‘Cinema Class’, director PARK Chanwook will be talking with HAN Sunhee, the director of Old Days, a documentary about the making process of Old Boy at 5:30pm, April 29.

In addition to that, a conversation on Chet Baker will be held by Robert BURDREAU, the director of the opening film Born to be Blue and Doug HWANG, a renowned jazz critic from Korea. ‘Cinema Class’ is designed to provide the audience in-depth conversations on remarkable films from the current. At this year’s Cinema Class’ director PARK Chanwook will be talking with HAN Sunhee, the director of Old Days, a documentary about the making process of Old Boy. The Special Focus ‘Modern Chilean Cinema: A New Territory in Latin America’ Forum provides the chance to understand the trends in the modern movies of Chile, which is being hailed as the new birthplace of Latin American cinema. Director of Much Ado About Nothing, Alejandro Fernandez ALMEDRAS and Jose Luis TORRES LEIVA who directed Verano will visit Jeonju IFF. These experts on Chilean cinema and Chilean filmmakers will talk about their history and movies.

‘Cinematology Class’ combined with ‘Cinematology’ which illuminates international film histories and film artists, is also noticeable. With the motto of ‘understanding movies through movies’, ‘Cinematology’ which goes with lectures by professionals or directors have chosen Eisenstein, Hitchcock, Truffaut, De Palma and more.

Moreover, Jeonju IFF also presents ‘Talk Class’ where young directors and actors share their filmmaking experiences. It will be a special class that gives you intimate look at the stories. At ‘Talk Class’, audiences can meet number of directors and actors from ‘Jeonju Cinema Project 2016’.

‘Talk in Spring’ is a talk session with filmmakers in the form of stage greetings with different directors and actors from ‘Korean Competition’, ‘Korean Cinemascape’, ‘Jeonju Cinema Project’ and more. This will be a chance for audience to have a friendly conversation with filmmakers.

These can be reserved at Jeonju IFF’s official website (http://eng.jiff.or.kr). ‘Master Class’ will run for 90 minutes after the movie screening with the admission fee of 12,000 KRW. ‘Cinematology Class’ will run for 60 minutes with the admission fee of 6,000 KRW. ‘Talk Class’ will run for 40 minutes with the admission fee of 6,000 KRW. The 17th Jeonju IFF will run from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, May 7.
